WIRELESS SKY+

I'm looking for a way to send my Sky+ to a second TV and be able to able to change channels from the room the 2nd tv is in. Some of the wireless senders do not allow this function! Can anyone recommend a model/make that achieves the objectives and is fairly neat/small?

Kaine is the expert in this field!

I bought 4 different systems, all with absoloutly no luck! They ranged from £20 to £90 and all performed as badly as each other. I was trying to send from the lounge to the kitchen 10m max and the picture was rubbish. Plus for some reason if the kitchen TV doesn't recieve a proper signal then it displays a blank screen. Plus when the microwave was used it blanked the screen and meant that you had to power-down the TV and re-start.

I have also dabbled with wireless CCTV cameras at the house with just as many problems.

If I can give you just one bit of useful advice this year then this is it................

"Pay an aerial company a nominal fee to have a proper co-ax lead run to the room you want the TV in, with a booster and magic-eye (for the remote function)."

I paid around £150 for ours to be run from the lounge to a playroom, kitchen and thee of the bedrooms! In my opinion money well and truely spent well! Thumbs Up TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.

Coax is the best way with a magic eye in each room. I have two Sky boxes downstairs (One HD and One SKY+ in the kids room) and they are then linked to another 5 TV's (yes I know its sad) via Coax.

In most houses (especially new ones) coax is already in most rooms for the TV aeriel so I just used this. You just a tiny amplifier distribution box in the attic (about £30) from which you connect the SKY box and the TV's you are sending the signal.

It works a treat. 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8, Stornoway Grey

We use one of those video senders... it's not great, but it works OK. It's a Philips one - got it from Argos, was about £70 I think. The only Censored with it is that you either have to buy a second remote or remember to take your existing one upstairs with you.

sorry to hear that too Ali

the key with wireless senders is unfortunately trial and error - I know customers who have used them without a problem, however others where the microwave, wireless routers and even people walking between the direct line of sight effect them - they are just unreliable

They are. With our one, you can't use the microwave at the same time as using the sender. As soon as the microwave goes on, the TV pic turns to noise. Doesn't seem to be too bothered with people wandering around in front of it though, dancing about etc... Whistle

You could split your project in 2 by using a Logitech Remote 885 that has RF capabilities, so you could swap channels from any room in the house.

Then you install a video broadcast. 08.5 RRS TDV6 HSE Java Black/Alpaga - Cold Climate Pack - Privacy Glass - Bluetooth - Sunroof - 20" wheels - Rubber Floor mats.

S - the Philips SLV range are probably the best around though.

If you can wait (and we've been waiting now for over a year for this one), but Gefen are developing a HD Wireless sender that will resolve all these issues

a conventional IR over Coax system would be more cost effective though (i.e. 12V RF2 output from the Sky+ box to a loft box distribution amp)

Thanks guys, it was a couple of years ago and he was only 47.
The senders he had he was modifying and trying to use them at a range of about 1.5km but the lack of line of sight defeated his project, we coldnt get mast up where we needed it to get the signal to go over the brow of the hill. We were on one side of a broad plateau and trying to "bend" the signal into the next valley.
He bought a box of these Tx/Rx think about 25 of each.
We did get a signal through using a WiFi Access point and I had a couple of 17dBi gain flat plate antennas and that did the trick. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Ali,

sounded like a great project - I've been playing with HD streaming throughout my house for the last year using a selection of wireless antennas' - have two media centres and an Xbox in the system and it works very well. What media were you transmitting?

The Wireless senders available on the high street work in the same band as Wireless Networks so they happily wipe each other out. Both the Wireless Router and the TV sender can change to different channels but I have never been able to get an acceptable picture.
