Airbag warning light

Hmmm....airbag warning light is coming on occasionally but only when there is a front seat passenger.

Presume the RRS only arms the pass airbag when there is a passenger so problem is likely to be the passenger airbag module/wiring/components???

SWMBO took it into the dealer who then, after a short test, stated that the airbag light wasnīt coming on but that the seatbelt light was on al the time therefore it was the drivers seatbelt buckle sensor which necessitates stripping out the seat and stripping the seat cover out etc etc... Confused Confused Part on order so will take pic of dash to prove it is the airbag light and not the seatbelt light..... Cheers

Are you referring to the "Passenger Airbag Off" warning light on the center console? Mine lights up whenever the seatbelt is latched and the "passenger" is my Maltese dog inside his travel carrier, which I usually place on the front passenger seat and secure by sliding the seatbelt through the case handle and latching it. Some sort of sensor under the seat must tell the CPU whether or not the passenger is heavy enough to activate the airbag, so it won't fire if someone is dumb enough to put a baby seat there... (or a small dog!) Unless you are carrying a light passenger, my first suspect would be the seat sensor, either it fell off its socket or it is defective.

Hi umbertob, no its the airbag warning light on the dashboard, next to the seatbelt warning light, but I think the seat sensor could do with a check as you suggest as it has only come on, so far at least, when the passenger seat is in use... Cheers

We had an airbag warning light on all the time when we took it to the dealer they did a software patch/upgrade which cured it and not had the problem since.

Hmm.. if it is the airbag light, it's worth getting it seen to. You don't want a) it going off unexpectedly or b) not going off when you expect it to. I had a airbag warning light come up on a previous BMW and it entailed replacing the wiring harness, but you should at least let the dealer investigate.

Lucky you Simon, in these parts we get mobile speed cameras coming out toward the end of month when the local plod's fuel account needs to be paid, but the place is swarming with roadside vehicle checks. The Inspectorate seems to think that everybody around here is a farmer trying to run their car on red diesel, untaxed and uninsured and unMOT'd. Last week there were 3 mobile inspection stations set up around Stirling alone, one on the sliproad to the M9! They cause havoc too as all the traffic gets held up. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Wow, just shows how evenly and fairly UK law enforcement works eh?

This far the airbag light is remaining off in any case.... Cheers
