Notice the bandwidth is unlimited on the priceplans - I pay about £65 a month for my Blackberry due to picking up emails (data) This will prove cheaper by nearly half. All I need to do now is switch my number from vodafone! I bet that's not easy.

Remember that it's data unlimited for a reason, that reason is that the phone is not 3G but EDGE. EDGE is fast GPRS, like a fast telephone line modem. (Nothing like broadband nor 3G speeds).

So, it's not the generous tariff unlike "3" for example.
This only really matters if you need a broadband like experience on the move.

Remember that one can buy the iphone from Apple in the US and hack it to any network you like.

Most of the iPhone toys will only for on O2 as they are the ONLY UK network to be configured to work with the iPhone (Yes the network has to be set up for this)

Apple have only let O2 to do this so even is you get an unlocked phone working on Orange it will be sh***er then what it already is!! RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Are the other networks not going to support the iPhone in future then or have O2 signed some sort of exclusivity deal for the UK?

O2 are exclusive in the UK. They share revenues with Apple so don't expect it to pop up officially on other networks for a long time.

Remember, it's just a GSM phone. that means it will work on any network that O2 (for roaming) and Apple sell it to. 2022 P440e AB

Just a note of caution, it seems that the upgrade v1.1.1 kills unlocked Iphones.

I don't know how real the problem is, but be careful if you own one. '08 RRS TDV8

Yup, do not upgrade an unlocked phone. You'll need an AT&T SIM for that. 2022 P440e AB

As Paulo correctly says, the iphone uses EDGE ( Enhanced Digital Global Evolution ) and O2s network is being configured to allow the use of the iphone, O2 are currently undergoing a huge project to upgrade their existing 2G Network ( which has EDGE funcionality already) to allow the extra EDGE capacity required for the supposed large take up of this iphone.

O2 are forking out a lot of cash for this , so I guess it had better work!!! If you dont live on the EDGE, you are taking up too much space!!!!!!!!!!!!!
