Do you use Photoshop or Aperture VA ??

I'm very close to switching back to my first love ......... a MAC, which is the only platform for Aperture at the moment.

The only hesitation I have is that I have a Photoshop on this darn PC & an order in for Lightroom Confused

I can get a fab deal through work for a HP desktop, but not for a MAC.

But if someone were to tell me that Aperture was the MUTS, then my mind would be made up !

Rupert,

Hard to compare Aperture with Photoshop as they are two difernt Applications. Photoshop is more for editing and touch up and is available in a Mac version.

Aperture is more of an image management system. There are adjustsment for hue, saturation ect so it would be better to compare it to lightroom.

Surf the different Apple websites - on the Australian site there are free 30 day trial downloads to have a play with. Just a white TDV8 with a few extras

I have Photoshop Elements 5 which up to now has done most of what I want.

But recently I got the 30 day trial of Lightroom, which asides from the organisation functionality, has better controls for exposure correction, colour curves etc. than Elements.

However for picture crop, rotate & layers, I would still need Elements. Not to mention the quite knacky album page creation facility, which Elements offers.

I’ve seen Aperture briefly at an Apple Store, but unfortunately not having a MAC I can’t avail of the 30 day trials. So I’m betwixt & between as to what to do for my new desktop.

Stay PC & use Lightroom & Elements 5.

Or move to MAC drop back to Elements 4, as there doesn’t seem to be a 5 for the MAC yet & while I’m at it change over to Aperture.

I really want to go back to a MAC, but I’m finding it a hard decision to make. I really hate the thought of being a sheep & following the PC flock, but it’s hard to break away.

Edited to add………..

Well since I’ve been writing here, I was looking at a Frequent Travellers Forum that I’m a member of, which has a “Travel Photography” board & stumbled upon a Lightroom vs Aperture discussion & the overwhelming opinion is very much in favour of LR over Aperture. I don’t think I’ve seen such a sway towards one product on such a thread before.

It pains me really, but with the great deal I can get through work on a HP desktop, the fact I already have Elements 5 & have a 30 day trial of LR running it seems my hand is being forced here. I so want to go back to a MAC, but all the cards are being dealt in favour of staying PC.

Now if only I could get a nice CAD package for a PC to equal the old “Claris Draw” I still run on a creaky old Performa, I’d be a happy chappy Cool
