Apparently a whole load of spam text i have been receiving and ignoring for 10 days has been racking up a $5 dollar charge per text. and now stands at $149 dollars. I did not opt in, it was totally unsolicited. Anyone else seen this kind of crap .. Vodafone have raised an official complaint on my behalf, its mind boggling that the tw@ts who run the service can get away with it. The number that was quoted to opt out... was yes disconnected

Don't know about in Oz, but here OFTEL/OFCOM haven't yet imposed an upper limit on what you can charge for things like premium rate phone numbers. A popular scam is:

interesting thing was that the company who is listed by vodafone is in the UK, and the company running it on their behalf are in the UK, Australia and a few other places and checking out google have run foul of a few Oftel regs and according to Vodafone here, also the local regulator in OZ.
