Our Ducks are under attack

We have a Moorhen with 6 chick and a Duck with 6 duckings in our pond and today an Eagle has decided its a nice place to dine Evil or Very Mad

We have just seen the eagle attack the Moorhen nest and thankfully all the large Ducks and Moorhens responded and made it fly off - the Eagle is bloody huge - 3/4 times the size of the Ducks but it seems numbers counts. The Eagle flew off and positioned him/herself on a nearby telegraph pole for I would imagine a second try.

Mixed emotions to be honest - its amazing to see an Eagle in the Garden, however we feel the ducks are part of the family

heres a piccie of the duck and ducklings - poor little things Sad

You should be ok Kaine because in this situation the parents take over as you have already witnessed, they will make as much fuss and noise as possible to deter the attack.
The problem is the eagle may find, if it gets too hungary, that it is worth more effort so it may try harder next time. If it comes in from a more far out range and uses the element of surprise on the mom you might have a full on attack on your hands - but you will know by the noise the mother is making that something is wrong. Keep the 12 bore handy just in case. Thumbs Up You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.
