is everyone getting the incredible electric storms tonight? The sky is lighting up almost pink around here - tried to take some pics of the fork lighting however only managed one however got some great pics of the sheet lighting

We had the same kind of weather 2 weeks ago in Holland. It was around 5 o'clock in the afternoon when the sky became pitch black (it looked like it was 10 o'clock in the evening) In one city, there even was a supercell (a very heavy thunderstormcomplex) and there was a lot of damage caused by that complex.

well its been bucketing it down here for about and hour cats and dogs, but no lightening, which is a shame because the view from here would be outstanding some of my Previous cars

We've had some awesome storms here tonight, tried to get some pics but they didn't turn out very good. Did get some vid which I'll put on youtube tomorrow if it's any good. 2002 Discovery Adventurer LE

i would presume that it not only comes from the ground but also the sea

... then what is that big lightening conductor on top of most buildings doing. Surely not channeling the lightening from the building into the sky I think perhaps lightening is very complex area and there are lots of different types, but in most cases the electrical charge itself flows from the atmosphere into the earth (hopefully not via a person, building or ship)....
