We had the same kind of weather 2 weeks ago in Holland. It was around 5 o'clock in the afternoon when the sky became pitch black (it looked like it was 10 o'clock in the evening) In one city, there even was a supercell (a very heavy thunderstormcomplex) and there was a lot of damage caused by that complex.

This was recorded in the city that was hit by that storm, they first thought that it was a tornado (but it wasn't):

The cars even stopped on the highway:

They are also predicting heavy thunderstorms for tonight, but I think they will only hit the western part of Holland. And luckily I don't live there but I think that member Jappie911 does and I hope he has a garage/roof above his new RRS TDV8 Laughing

Adios!

So what happens at sea then, because we get plenty of electrical storms out in the middle of nowhere?
I can tell you it isn't nice to be the highest thing for 100's of miles around in a thunderstorm at sea when you in a 40ft sailing boat as well.................. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

... then what is that big lightening conductor on top of most buildings doing. Surely not channeling the lightening from the building into the sky Shocked I think perhaps lightening is very complex area and there are lots of different types, but in most cases the electrical charge itself flows from the atmosphere into the earth (hopefully not via a person, building or ship).... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini
