England 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zermatt Silver
Nightmare continues!

I have only owned my V8 Supercharged for 2 months but I cannot wait to get rid and go back to reliable German Marques!

The latest nightmare according to a LR specialist is that I need a new engine even though it has only done 70k. Apparently a LPG sysem was badly fitted and removed at some time which has worn the engine!

So much for RR reputation. As soon as the issue is resolved with the dealer the car is going and I won't be touching the RR brand again!

Sorry to hear that, I moved to a RRS from an X5 (with a few sports cars inbetween!) which was the most unreliable car I've ever owned! New transmission box and gearbox with less that 60k on the clock!! Put it this way i sold it to buy an Alfa!! Mate had a ML which was a nightmare, only 4x4 that I've known someone own and be fault free (relatively) is a Cayenne! Range Rover Sport HSE and for a bit of weekend fun a S1 Lotus Elise with a few track biased additions!

Like you say Sam its luck of the draw but it does influence you. I have had M3s, CLKs a 911 and my last car was an ML AMG which in 4 years didnt give me any problems at all ,apart from a new battery and service costs! The drive was far superior to this V8 too (although admittedly it isn't running correctly).I would have it back anytime in preference to my current RR.

Hello spidermac
Sorry to hear you have major issues, but you can not really blame RR for what some idiot has done to your car befor, if you put diesel in a petrol, you dont blame the manufacturer.
The sc is not desinged for gas unless it has quite major engine modification, There is only one or two companies that can do it properly.
Did you get if from a dealer?
you may be able to get them to cough up.
Most people, after a bit of research know not to gas the sc, they are very hard to sell. (Most lpg converters will advise you against it)
Unfortunatly the previous owner has known they have knackered it, removed the gas and sold it asap.
Its worth confronting who you bought it from. I have a sc, the engine is excellent. Unfortunatly you have been very unlucky, and the victim of some idiot.
Hope you get it sorted with minimum cost

If I'm honest my RRS has had a few issues but these were all to do with the previous owner trying to run the car on a budget. I bought the car knowing this and paid accordingly! Have to say of all the cars I've owned my old Porsche Boxster S was head and shoulders above the rest. Bought it to drive (fast) round Italy and it has never missed a beat. Says gone on my signature but actually took it off sale as toying with the idea of another Euro hoon next year!

Had Audi's and nothing but issues with all of them. Will say up until the X5 I had 3 other variants of the E46 and they were spot on.

Think like you say it's half luck and half how the cars been cared for Range Rover Sport HSE and for a bit of weekend fun a S1 Lotus Elise with a few track biased additions!

Not sure how those two statements really go together. Some idiot messes up the engine and it's somehow Land Rover's fault and the RR brand is therefore rubbish?

Odd way of looking at the world, IMHO. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I hope you get your issues sorted.

But please don't blame LR for some tight fist having gas fitted because he couldn't afford the fuel bills. Surely it is his fault for the engine damage not LR's.

As for the reliable German marques I have had two 55's and they have both had issues of roof leaks, now that shouldn't happen either on such a quality car. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies and yes I accept that its an individual car problem and not a RRS issue.

I am taking it all through Trading Standards and Consumer.gov.uk but the dealer is proving illusive of course!

I wasn't told about the LPG and had the car HPI checked and the company investigated and everything was fine. I decided (foolishly in hindsight) not to have the car fully inspected thinking that a RR sold from a dealer nust be ok, very naive!

The car has had 2 previous footballer owners which made the LPG conversion even more of a surprise. I have been told that I have a solid case because the car was sold without mention of the LPG and a few other things which have shown up.

The car is stunning looking and ticks all the boxes but I feel that giving it back is the best option rather than trying to repair it.

For future reference the dealer is called Winton Cars based in Chesham.

Good luck bud
within 3 months of purchase you are fully covered by consumer rights.

(every one knows most footballers are as thick as a plank, never buy a footballers old motor, their insurance is sky high for a reason)

Sorry to hear of your problems mate. You say you've owned it for two months?

I'd go and get a solicitor and they'll write a few letters and you should get it sorted.

If you paid according to the car value which you said reflected a few problems my betting is they'll settle pretty quickly but you'll need that legal backing.

Someone else was asking about buying a high miler on the forum yesterday and it's the oldest 'trick' in the book to make a motor look a million dollars when that's what it'll cost you to have sorted mechanically.

It does again prove that you have to not be taken in by the eye and think with the head and check, check and check again.

Having said all that I seem to be able to do this with cars but now women so I can't offer much more advice....

A string of divorces and some pretty women back in the UK will testify to that! 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE in Artic Frost. 20" 2010 HST Alloys, sidesteps, Hawke tips, plus minor bits and bobs along with a remap. German Cars are often worst - so i would hold them as the holly grail! Actually LR hold their own now and are comparable...but it is a little harsh to blame LR for an aftermarket LPG kit damage, when the advise not to have one fitted and didnt fit it themselves.

It would be like saying the body got ruined by fitting 30" wheels on it! Mike

Sorry to hear about your problems and I hope you can take the dealer to the cleaners. BUT, it's pretty unfair of you to lay this at the door of LR, especialy when it wasn't even an authorised LR dealer that you bought the car from but a general second hand dealer. I'm sure if you'd purchased the car through an LR dealer under the LR Approved scheme then you'd not have had these issues. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

GONE - RRS - 2.7 TDV6 HSE - Java Black (2007)
