Hella's new FULLY automatic lighting system managed by a camera.
The camera and software 'see' the road ahead and optimize the lighting required.
adapts to oncoming traffic progressively to maximize the illumination and minimize glare (may allow brighter lights )
adapts by speed and to road conditions ie. grades etc.
speed dependent cornering illumination.
adapts to ambient lighting such as the difference between city and country.
one version of this also had a camera that detected roadside hazards such as animals and illuminated them.
Expect to see in OE applications within 3 years or less.
The big difference is that the lights change illumination progressively rather than in steps such as main/dipped.
