Shmoogle - I need your help

having some pop3/smtp probs and neither my host or I cant get to the bottom of it

Error is as follows;

error wrote:
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Re: Revised Proposal', Account: '****@********', Server: '**********', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 Temporary local problem - please try later', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC6A

(***** added to replace email and server id's etc)

- Its not a local pc problem (same problem on all home and office pc's)
- Its not a router problem (tried alternative)
- Dont think its an ISP problem (use Plusnet at home and BTBroadband at the office - same problem in both locations)
- Host says everything is fine at their end - I am the only client with this problem apparently Confused
- tried changing to smtp port 26 - no good
- all the normal settings are in place, i.e. smtp authenication is set etc - but nothing has been changed anyway.

The problem is the error indicates a local problem but I'll be Censored if I can find the problem

any ideas? Thanks in advance

Kaine

Hmm... I take it the net result is that you can no longer send any emails. As this error doesn't mention POP3, can you still pick email up?

I might have seen something similar once before. Let me have a look around for you.... watch this space.

Thanks

I've thrown it back at the host - email accounts are showing usage against the quota's however there is no content in any account - even our ebay account shows no emails - which is incorrect.

I'll see what they say!!

Having looked back through some old stuff of mine, I find I have seen this error before.

It was to do with the AV client on the mailhost interfering where it shouldn't have been. They were running exim apparently (not sure what your mailhost is running) .... and had to add a line to the exim config file that configured the mailer's "knowledge" of it. They were doing some routine maintenance and accidentally reverted to the default version of the config file. They were running ClamAV. I seem to have mislaid the actual config detail.... but might be able to find it at home this evening if you think it would be useful.

Your host's mileage might vary of course - but a quick Google seems also to point to AV interference.

Hope that helps.... let me know how it goes.
