Can't really say on a L494, but when I bought my L320 5.0L s/c many years ago it did take me while to get used to throttle response, after being used to a oil burner (TDV8) and having to give the pedal a reasonable push to respond, driving the s/c the same it took of like a rocket with the front passenger nearly ending up in the rear seat, so had to learn to be a little more easy with the pedal, however if I was a bit to cautious it could give the feel of a delay when pulling away, used to it now after all this time so it's no issue, probably not your issue just my own personal experience when first having the car, a throttle response delay is certainly something the 5.0L does not suffer from normally unless there is a fault of some kind.
