Why does the tax rate more or less double

On the higher bands it goes from say 400 of odd to nearly 800 for things over 290gkm (or thereabouts).
Why is that anybody know... no point asking the muppets at dvla they'll probably say "it's the way it's been calculated" or bs to that effect.

Dunno.

Either buy a car registered before 21 March 2006 for £415 road tax.
or a car registered after April? 2017 for £190 road tax. (if its not 6 years old yet, you will pay a premium for a while (making it total £600) (assuming the list price was over £40,000))

Yes I know all that what I'd like to know is why the hell it more or doubles. Dvla would just tell you bs that they're told I would like to know the true answer/ reason.

I’m guessing everyone with a L320 3.0/3.6 will be £735 to £800 if they put it up again this year a bit?

A bit of a silly question really!
The answer is because they can and it brings in more revenue.

You are not going to get any logical explanation, because there isn't one! Rolling with laughter 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

In my view, this is just the start. When you think about the shear number of diesel cars on the road currently and the intention of governments to get them all off the road asap, they are not going to buy them all off us at retail value and then scrap them. They will keep putting up the tax on those they want removed from the road and sooner or later the owners will say enough's enough and scrap them for new eco cars. So look out as well for the price of diesel at the pumps to go up greater than the cost of petrol by way of something like a "supplementary levy"- justified by the need to reduce pollution and CO2. Again this will add to the cost of running a big diesel car. Robin

I know what you mean and you're right but the likes Stalin going around in his rangy, well we know it's not his it's the governments therefore we own it. I wonder if its petrol diesel or leccy, whatever it is we're paying for it.

Rules for them and us

To be fair, everyone has to pay it. You buy your car and suffer the consequences.

How’s yours coming along ? Any developments ?

Yea I know Jonny but it's why it doubles from older I don't get.

I've still got it, it's the tax that's annoying the hell out me mainly. I bypassed the ace pump with a shorter belt to get it charging.

Well done on getting it back up and running. What other car could you get for the price that gives the same level of comfort and driving experience - pretty much nothing.

I had a 4.2 SC previously, which was lower tax bracket, but love the facelifted L320 and happy to pay the extra tax for the extra pleasure of driving.

It’s the electric car owners I feel sorry for / splurging £40k+ on an electric car with no tax and then suddenly your up at £770.

Double spanking.

Thanks, it was a bit of faffing about getting a belt to fit but got it in the end.

I know what you mean but then an older one ie before 06 like the l322 I had. Ok it was a 3.0 Vogue but was still good, ok is not a 3.6 v8 but hey ho.
As I say I know what you mean though.... again decisions decisions.. Very Happy
