The Tailgate on my 21 plate L494 has dropped on the off side and is now catching on the door surround. Have tried altering the striker plate but that make no material difference, I really need to do something with the hinges but there is nothing obvious to adjust. Anyone have a link to something that shows how it can be done…

I’ve noticed lots of L494’s with mis-aligned tailgates. The one on my MY21 is about 5mm low all round (when looking at the line of the lights and the trim across the tailgate). The car is in for service today (local independent), and I asked what sort of job it would be to realign the tailgate. He said that it’s caused by weak hinges and the LR are aware and have issued a TSB about it, but no doubt the hinges that aren’t really fit for purpose (fitted) would need to be swapped for ones that are at our expense.

After 8 months had mine finally sorted by the dealer, new hinges and realignment by the body shop. Covered by warranty and goodwill!
PS Independent quoted me £800!

Generally if there is a TSB and the customer complains, there is a good chance of getting it free.

Helps to print out the TSB and leave it on the passenger seat

I literally gave them a copy of the TSB!

Where did you find the TSB please? I can't see one relating to the UK. I've had a quote from a Main Dealer which is significantly less than your Independent, but still not an insignificant amount.

I gave them the North American TSB, which they accepted but did say it was a “good will” gesture from JLR….they changed both the hinges then sent it to the body shop to realign the door.

Thank you. That’s the one that I saw and mentioned to the dealer, but they didn’t offer to go down that route as it didn’t apply to the UK. It’s time any TSB was a worldwide thing as we’re systematically ripped off here in the UK.
