Key fob buttons don't work

Hi all, finally took the plunge and bought a L494 2013 RRS. It's as lovely as I hoped it would be but unfortunately has an issue with the fob. I've done plenty of searching but can't find a description of the issue I have. Symptoms are:

The fob works ok and allows me to open and start the vehicle. I can also lock by touching the handle.

None of the buttons on the remote do anything, it won't lock, unlock, do lights etc.

Also another thing that seems off is that when you stop the car and turn off the engine you have to press the unlock button to exit the car.

The other key doesn't work at all!

Could it be low/flat battery on both or is that wishful thinking!!? Previous owner says he only ever used keyless so I suspect it's been like this for a while.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Try some new batteries. My experience is that Varta ones work, others dont..

And i would suggest disabling keyless entry as a security measure.

Ok thanks will try the batteries for a kick off, I've actually already bought some Duracell ones, will swap tonight and see if it helps. I'm guessing though that the car would tell me if the batteries were low in the one that keyless works for? Assume it needs SOME power to activate keyless and start the car?
