I have a 55 plate RRS 2.7 with a split tailgate.

I cannot get the tailgate (just to top or all of it) to open.

I've tried the "hold the buttons in for 5 sec's" on the dashboard, the remote (car locked & unlocked, ignition on/off) & the push the tailgate firmly shut & push the release buttons.

It appears to be mechanically shut & I don't think anything is caught in the latch.

No error message on dashboard & no fault code when using the ODB port.

Fuse's also checked & OK.

Any suggestions please ?

Is there a mechanical release anywhere ?

(I've done a search through this forum & cannot find any suggestions that I have not tried).

I'm beginning to suspect the sensor on the latch not telling the BCM that the tailgate is in fact shut so the BCM thinks it's open ? It has in the past occasionally given a "tailgate open" error on the dashboard & an "open & firm shut" would clear it.

If it was the sensor/switch in the latch, you would get a dashboard error message.

Usually firmly pushing on the tailgate, at the bottom middle helps, but I suspect you tried that.

If all else fails you can remove the trim from the rear, and see if you can open it.

Was the glass hatch working before ?

Probably thinks the lower tailgate is open. Open it and close it again.

The switch can be removed, unplugged and wiring bypassed to test temporarily
