What do they do in the 10 year service. I thought the 7 year was the big one. That cost me around £1k when it was done |

Service is every 12 months or 16k, isn't it? So the LRSH is rather incomplete with 3 years between services (54 months - 18 months = 36 months).

Yep - looks like it was done on miles rather than months. Finding a good indi, seems to be the challenge. Does this site have no recommendation rule ? |

No, indies can be recommended. There is no rule against it

Bell Automotive in Queensferry near Chester. Been very good to me and know their stuff. Also have some old Corsas as courtesy cars, so you’re not paying a fortune for a swanky runabout. |

My 2010 TDV8 has not been in for any service (Landrover or any Independant) for at least 10 years. I just do regular fluid changes which any normal person can do. For the first 4 years I used to send the car in for service and has nothing but problems. To spend 2400 pounds on a 10 year old car is ridiculous. My car has never broken down or even let me down in those 10 years , it just goes and goes. I think most people get their car "serviced" even when it does not need it. |

Booked in with them I checked the paperwork, they actually did the maintenance (brakes etc on the car) in the past, with LandRover left with servicing. |

Maybe you overestimate the will, and capability of normal people. I'd rather pay a good Indi plus or minus £50 per hour, to do the work correctly, making sure they source the right parts and use the correct tools. |

I'm not someone who can do these jobs on the car. Inde's totally have their role and provide value etc. I do use them for most things. But, and its a big BUT here, I prefer to have my car serviced at the main dealer for one reason alone: its the ability to have a monthly service plan. No Inde near me offers this. My car's annual service is January and I don't know about anyone else but, I'm pretty skint after Xmas. This way, big bills and big services are part of the plan. Cost is about £62 p/m including MOT's for up to 5 years, locking out inflation too.

You could just put that money in an account and use it for servicing at a cheaper place, of course. A service plan is just putting the money in someone else's account until it's time to spend it.

yes I could but who knows what else would call on those savings plus, that wouldn't hedge inflation. You're right about the quality of the dealer though. I've built this relationship over years even though, they've never managed to sell me a car Cheers,

It cost £1188.43 but that included addressing an airbag warning light issue as well, therefore should have been £1080 - they look to have done an excellent job (including updating the online records).
