England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Fuji White
L494 10 Year Service - £2,400

Looking to get a 10 year (160000 miles / 120 months) service for my newly acquired RRS (3.0L Diesel)

Car has full LRSH, so I thought i'd ask them, and the current quote (including coolant change, gearbox, diff and transfer oil change, plus normal big service) is £2,400 (I have asked the manager to see what they can do, but don't hold out much hope to get it below £2k)

Is this excessive, what would the equivalent specialist charge ?
Can someone recommend a specialist in the South / East Manchester area.

Last two services were:-
144000 miles / 108 months service 18 months ago (13k miles ago).
112000 miles / 84 months service 54 months ago (30k miles ago) including a cam belt change.

What do they do in the 10 year service. I thought the 7 year was the big one. That cost me around £1k when it was done

"B" service
Gearbox oil
Transfer box oil
F+R diff oils
Coolant change

An indy will be about £1k for exactly the same work Thumbs Up

Service is every 12 months or 16k, isn't it? So the LRSH is rather incomplete with 3 years between services (54 months - 18 months = 36 months).

Find a decent indy and use them. Half the price, twice the service, infinitely better outcome. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yep - looks like it was done on miles rather than months.

Finding a good indi, seems to be the challenge.
Does this site have no recommendation rule ?

No, indies can be recommended. There is no rule against it

The only indy I know of down your way is Henshall Engineering. James will look after you Thumbs Up

Bell Automotive in Queensferry near Chester. Been very good to me and know their stuff. Also have some old Corsas as courtesy cars, so you’re not paying a fortune for a swanky runabout.

My 2010 TDV8 has not been in for any service (Landrover or any Independant) for at least 10 years. I just do regular fluid changes which any normal person can do. For the first 4 years I used to send the car in for service and has nothing but problems. To spend 2400 pounds on a 10 year old car is ridiculous. My car has never broken down or even let me down in those 10 years , it just goes and goes. I think most people get their car "serviced" even when it does not need it.

Booked in with them Thumbs Up

I checked the paperwork, they actually did the maintenance (brakes etc on the car) in the past, with LandRover left with servicing.

Maybe you overestimate the will, and capability of normal people. Mr. Green

I'd rather pay a good Indi plus or minus £50 per hour, to do the work correctly, making sure they source the right parts and use the correct tools.

I'm not someone who can do these jobs on the car. Inde's totally have their role and provide value etc. I do use them for most things. But, and its a big BUT here, I prefer to have my car serviced at the main dealer for one reason alone: its the ability to have a monthly service plan. No Inde near me offers this. My car's annual service is January and I don't know about anyone else but, I'm pretty skint after Xmas. This way, big bills and big services are part of the plan. Cost is about £62 p/m including MOT's for up to 5 years, locking out inflation too.

Always has OEM spec parts and fluids with a full LRSH from new on a coming up to 13 year old L320. I plan to keep the car for another 5 years at least so, it will be 18 years old and with me for 14 years total. Other than ACE pipes and consumables, this has been really reliable, touch wood. I honestly feel servicing it like this is the reason why. Really though, its about the ability to spread the predictable running costs.

Check it out for yourselves. For me, it makes total sense.

BTW, because my main dealer had always serviced the car, when I ran into trouble with the front ACE pipes, they worked with me because they know me. I managed to source OEM parts and they fitted them at a price less than my local inde who didn't want to touch it. You really only know who you can rely on when the sh!t hits the fan. If they hadn't known the car, they wouldn't have worked on it. Cheers,

Stuart.

You could just put that money in an account and use it for servicing at a cheaper place, of course. A service plan is just putting the money in someone else's account until it's time to spend it.

If you've got a decent main dealer then I can see why you might choose to stay with them. Many of us have had bad experiences and so don't use them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

yes I could but who knows what else would call on those savings plus, that wouldn't hedge inflation. You're right about the quality of the dealer though. I've built this relationship over years even though, they've never managed to sell me a car Rolling with laughter Cheers,

It cost £1188.43 but that included addressing an airbag warning light issue as well, therefore should have been £1080 - they look to have done an excellent job (including updating the online records).
