30p for a clip - £120 to fit it!

At the weekend I removed the front recovery eye cover and when it came time to put it back on only one of the white retaining clips that the screwlock things engage on was still in place............................ so off to the dealer this morning to buy a new one. Cost 30p, so I took 3 (just in case!) and the service receptionist came out and said he would fit it while I waited and chatted about a nice Buckingham Blue TDv8 that they have on the showroom floor. 10 minutes later the receptionist comes back and tells me that it isn't the easy job like replacing the rear cover one was............................... and I would need to book the car in for the day so they can completely dismantle the front bumper to fit the 30p white plastic retaining clip! Good design or what? Good for the dealer's pocket I think. Anyway looks like that little clip could in the end up setting me back £55500.......................... and I'll drive around for the next week without the centre piece in the front spoiler! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I've just had the same experience on my D3. I took the Mantec tray off to replace it with the original plastic cover ready to selling the car. I then found that one of the white clips was missing. So I remove on of the clips that wasn't so vital. They come out very easy, but you can't get them back in! They have to go back in from the top and you can't get to the top without removing the bumper and other trim. I tried getting the clip in, but then it fell through the whole and has now fell inside the trim somewhere. So now I have two white plastic clips missing Evil or Very Mad

So I got the cable ties out and fixed the plastic cover back with these! Matt

Yes, not that I want to. Business hasn't been so good over the last year or so and I need to cut back on my outgoings. Will be really sorry to see it go. It's been the best car I've every had. Even better than the RRS - much better in fact. Smile Matt
