2013 L320 Oil Drain Mod

Just after a bit of advise if anyone can help.

I did an annual service last month and now I have the blue smoke on second turbo strange how it's happened now I used the correct castrol spec maybe they used a thicker oil previously?

Anyhow I'm guessing I'll have to do the mod as the performance is also a bit restricted it was really nice for a week after the service.

My question is after reading people who have done it that some later models of the tdv/sdv6 have not got the higher sump plug to put the new pipe into the engine and is cast instead this was someone doing a blog on the discovery 4, has anyone come across this on the RRS and if so what are the options if any?

Thanks

Looks to be Vin No. Dependent, is yours within the range?

Yours is part of the TSB VIN range so it’ll all be as it should be.

The plug that gets removed is in the block. The plug that goes in is for the sump. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Thanks for clearing that up I had visions of me getting it jacked up only to find issues.

First year of an RRS and it's cost me £1k already (I cant say I wasnt warned), compressor and valves overhaul due to orange triangle-new soft close boot catch-new upper and lower front arms inc while i was doing it new toe and drop links-new front and rear discs and pads-self service oil filters etc and loads of little bits to finish things off like caliper paint rustolean for undercarriage etc etc luckily I've done everything myself don't want to think how much I would have paid a garage

As your vin. is within the affected chassis range, have you actually checked that the oil drain mod has been done? would like to think it had by now though.

I've not yet but will before I buy the kit, having a few weekends off it now tbh the Mrs is getting jealous.

I doubt it has as it only had the first 2 services done by main dealer it's only got 60k on it, it's got aĺl the signs of the issue all is OK but when you kick the second turbo in after normal driving blue smoke and clears then won't do it for a day or so.

Got home early so squeezed under and it's the original long pipe.

But look at the mess it's making pictures dont really do it justicafter the dpf there must be a bad weld in the exhaust.

Don't think I'll be using the second turbo till the new pipe is fitted

I'm a bit concerned about the oil I've used I used the correct spec 5w30 c1 but have read and seen videos of people using thicker oils as it is too thin.

I'm starting to think it had a thicker grade in before and now I've gone to spec it's seeping through areas that it previously wasn't?

There was no issue before I changed the oil.

I’d be doubtful the oil change affected anything. The drain pipes seem to be fickle when they fail. I changed mine before it had an issue just because I could. The annoying part of the job is getting the starter out/out of the way to get to the plug in the block. Be sure to follow the instructions in the TSB and drain the oil out of the intercooler.

Only £1000? You’re doing good. If I had to pay a shop for repairs I’d be screwed. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
