P510e charging issue

I have had my P510e for almost a year and have loved it and have always charged at home with no problems.
We have just driven down to southern Spain, charging on the abundant Tesla network again without problem, They seem to be everywhere. I am now at my villa and have tried to charge from the slow wall socket granny charger and have encountered a problem.

When plugged in it starts to charge fine, with 15 hours until fully charged so I thought i would put it on overnight. I was woken up by a loud jet plane type of noise from the car, it seemed to be the engine cooling fan on full speed. The car was locked and as soon as i unlocked the car and unplugged the charger cable it stopped. The charge was at 70%

I have never heard this noise before when charging even on a Tesla charger which take around an hour.

Any ideas as to why this happened ? 2022 P510e RRS AB Frenze Red

Here’s my guess….

You are charging in a garage? Likely 25 degree in there. Maybe higher.

It’s simply much warmer in Spain and the cooling system is running hard even on the granny charge. I noticed it on my P400e a couple of years back, also in Spain.

Don’t know why it stopped charging though. Maybe it was too hot. My bet is that when you plug back in, it will be fine.

Maybe set the timer to charge during the day when electricity is cheaper in Spain, if you have a variable price contract.

Thanks, that was my thinking as well, I just thought that at night with the temperature around 20C it would be ok.
Also, based on what you have said the battery is being cooled when it’s on charge,I was not aware of this, is that correct? 2022 P510e RRS AB Frenze Red

That is my understanding...

Though i would not be surprised to hear that the cooling is the ac / dc convertor in the car. Perhaps the granny charger (which runs at about 1.5kw from memory) causes the ac / dc convertor in the car to heat up. At 20 degrees ambient, i suppose it wouldnt take alot to get that up to 40 degrees plus.

That might explain why the Tesla charging did not trigger the cooling. I.e. that's a DC current.

That sounds more than the cause of the fan, it sounded too loud to be the engine cooling fan,
Thanks again 2022 P510e RRS AB Frenze Red
