Needing a little advice here.. I’ve got a 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 that had been remapped by a previous owner.. since I’ve owned it I’ve noticed huge clouds of black smoke while accelerating which I believed it was overfueling.. checked the intercooler hoses which were fine, it also passed the emissions test in its last mot.. I just wasn’t a fan of the cloud of black smoke so did a little more searching online and noticed a number of people pointing to a possible mapping issue..

Contacted Gap and asked for the standard map which I uploaded last night and it’s cured the smoke, not one bit of smoke now but it’s bringing up the “engine system fault” on the dash, no engine management light, no limp mode and no faults logged on the gap tool..

There is a noticeable reduction in power which I would expect going back to a standard map, the EGR’s have apparently never been blanked or removed and the live values are showing the EGR positions as working correctly, I’m not suspecting it’s a turbo issue as everything was fine before the map was removed.. also, if there was a fault with either turbo, is expect some kind of fault to show on the gap tool..

Am at a loss as to what I could check to diagnose the issue, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Did a forum search as suggested and turns out it was an easy fix… sticking actuator arm on the N/S turbo, squirt of WD40 and back to full power again with no warnings.. 👌
