Mot fail rear brake pipes

Good afternoon everyone hope you all well

I’m looking for some knowledgeable help

2.7 2008 Range Rover sport

Just had car in for mot and it’s failed on a few things
Nsf inner cv boot
Tyre
1. Brake pipe excessively corroded nsr
1. Brake pipe excessively corroded osr
2. Brake pipe nsf to rear above silencer heat shield
2. Brake pipe osf to rear above silencer heat shield

Quoted £750 to repair
Seems a bit steep to me labour is £500

I’m capable of doing most things on the car including brake lines ect but what’s confused me is the garage says it’s 2 brake pipes each side above the heat shield I can only find 2 one going to osr and one going nsr . am I looking in the wrong place or something??

Surely I can just replace the rear part to the flexi and the small metal one near the calipers

Any help much appreciated

I know on the discovery 3 they do a preformed pipe that you cut and join above the centre exhaust box.
They go to the edge of the chassis behind the wheels.
You can then buy the complete rear brake kits.
Have a look on advanced factors.

L/R do list a repair section brake pipe that needs to be joined in the center of car and goes to the flexible pipe that is secured to the body at each rear wheel, there is another steel pipe that connects the two flexible pipes together at each wheel which they maybe talking of as well.

LR056968 & LR056967 but as normal stupid money from L/R I expect.

Cheers

Thank you for you help

My confusion is the garage saying there are 2 lines from front to rear each side which doesn’t seem correct

Two pipes front to rear, one goes to the o/s/r caliper the other to the n/s/r caliper.

Cheers

They’re just brake pipes, not rocket science. Replacing them doesn’t need JLR preformed lines, just the correct length, going to the correct position.

Patches can easily be spliced in.

When I done mine on my disco 3 it was cheaper and easier to buy the repair section as they followed the original route and had the correct flare on the ends also made out of coated steel same as original.
That was 4 years ago and they were less than £20.00 each now they are nearer £100.00 each.
It also depends on how happy and confident you are to make the pipes.

I had this on my 2005 4.2 s/c. It was a body off job which might explain the labour charge. On my current 5.0 s/c they replaced a section without lifting the body. I think it may depend on how much corrosion there is and which section needs to be replaced. Cheers,

Stuart.

My brake pipes were replaced at the same time as the crossover pipe as that required the body to be lifted. Doing the pipes (which had been mentioned in the previous MOT) was a no-brainer once the body was off anyway. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Talking of things to be looked at while the body is off, if its being lifted, also take a look at the ACE pipes front and rear. They regularly cause issues at the age the L320's are at and while its in the air, it could save you from some trouble later. Just a thought. Cheers,

Stuart.

Thanks for your help everyone

After a few days contemplating how hard it was going to be to do the brake pipes I got out on the drive and had a go

Took me a total of 3 hours to do all 4 much easier than expected.
And cost me only £30

One of the front to rears I had to change the full length from servo to brake due to corrosion near the bull head that wasn’t picked up on the mot. Hardest part was removing the old pipe at back of the engine.

Mot guy even commented what a neat tidy job I had done.

Well pleased and a full mot for another year
