Fitting Brembos to my 3.6 TDV8

Managed to bag a pair of 4 pot Brembos off eBay for £50 posted. The pics were pretty poor and only showed the callipers very faintly through the wheels, but pretty sure they’re Brembos.

They need a full rebuild, with new pistons, seals, nipples etc however, I just so happen to have a full piston and seal kit in the workshop from when I was going to rebuild my old 4.2 SC calipers.

A couple of questions - do the Brembo calipers need a carrier ? From what I’ve read, the carriers from the old style calipers are done away with.

Are the 4.2 Brembos for a MY 2005 4.2 the same as the MY 2010 ? The rebuild kit I have is 4 pot.

I’m pretty sure it’s all going to be plug and play and did this on my old V8 Vantage, which was a very satisfying job. Just need to decide what colour to do them. Red is too bling on a Stornaway Grey car, so thinking silver or unobtrusive black.

I think I’ll pop up a poll for the fun of it.

Doesn't your TDV8 not already have 4-pot Brembos? I thought they were standard fit on the TDV8. Mine certainly had them. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Nope - some rusty looking crappy things. Mind you it had new pads and discs not long before I bought it, so typically rubbish timing to do the switch.

Facelift TDV8 had standard D4 setup

Facelift Brembos were 6 pots

Thanks Mikey - how does that affect mounting ? Are carriers needed for fitting the 4 pots on a MY 10 ?

Not sure what will arrive in the post, but sounds like they may be 6 pots from your comment. Hopefully that’s plug and play as the ones I’m buying are off a 2009 TDV8.

If they are 6 pots you will need new discs/pads as well as the discs are 380mm diam. the 4 pot used 360mm diam. which is what your car will have as standard, the original backplates should be o.k. though. The brembo's will bolt straight on to the knuckle/hub assy. without any carriers, you could use the original carrier bolts for mounting the brembo's as they are the same, they are also however torqued up to something like 275Nm. personally I prefer to use new bolts.

Great - thanks for clarifying. So it looks like I’ll be getting 4 pots and they’ll work with my existing 360mm discs and existing D4 pads, both of which have approx 1,000 miles on them.

Ah - thought they would be, but couldn’t find anything online that showed a different pad depending on the caliper.

Poland 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Fuji White

I refurbed some four piston Brembos for my 2011 L320 3.0. They’re a direct swap, just remove the old calipers, pads, sensor and carriers then bolt up the Brembos and drop in new pads (P44018) and new wear sensor (A00265 is the sensor for 2010-2013 6 piston Brembos). Easy job.
