United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Rimini Red
Q7 v RRS

After 24 hours running around in a Q7, I was delighted to get back into my RRS. The Q7 was a big disappointment - and that was despite trying to be as open minded as possible.

Compared to a RRS the Q7 felt less refined, a much poorer driving position, dark as a pot hole inside, plastics below par for an Audi and personally I still think the Q7 is an ugly beast.

The 3 litre diesel feels like an old unit now compared to either the TDv6 or TDv8. It works hard for a living, but doesn't inspire at all. The driving position is low and visibility is very poor. The controls are very complex and totally non intuitive. Audi seems to have borrowed an I-drive like system from BMW, and I couldn't make head nor tail of it. The handbrake is borrowed from Mercedes with that stupid little foot pedal and a pull out release mechanism.

Jumping back inside the RRS felt like a significant step up (literally, mechanically and looks). I had been at risk of starting to take for granted the RRS's peerless engine, world beating suspension, fabulous driving position and huge character. I suggest if anyone is starting to question whether the RRS is still the class leading vehicle - just book a test drive in an M, X or Q class and you will soon remember why the RRS was, and still is, the best choice for the discerning motorist.

Thumbs Up RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I think the Q7 it too small inside - the rear seats look tiny!

Nice as the front, not too bad at the sides, butt ugly from the rear - slug like Confused

Peerless engine? The TDv6? Come on now, the X5 3 litre diesel has always been much better hasn't it? (at least in terms of speed and fuel consumption) 2022 P440e AB

Drove an x5 diesel recently (about 5k on the clock ).
Not as quiet as the RRS
More mid range resonances and vibrations than the RRS
Worse fuel economy than my Td V6 RRS driven on the same roads and in roughly the same fashion.
More instant response than my RRS but not as good after initial surge of torque.
CONCLUSION
The BMW engine is good and in a very well mannered vehicle but compared to my RRS is showing it's design age.

ps Nobody looks twice at an x5 Big Cry whereas the RRS nearly causes accidents..particularly young women Cool Cool

X5 3 litre diesel is only much better in terms of speed and fuel consumption because it doesn't weigh as much as the RRS. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

Whilst that is true I am very careful to hide behind very dark glass so as not to scare the horses.....so it must be the RRS Ner Ner Ner Ner Ner Ner

Some years ago we were all bouncing along to a little ditty in my RRC and old mate mowing his front lawn was so busy watching us with his mouth open that he ran his mower over his lawn sprinkler........now that WAS funny
