P400e EV range/charging

Hi - picked up a new to me 2021 AB a few weeks ago. Fully charged it was showing 29 miles at the dealer

Since I’ve been charging it at home on a 3pin, it’s showing 21 or 22. It’s been cold here in the UK recently but the last few days is warmer so was expecting closer to the 29

Anyone with experience have any insight into what determines it? Is it the temperature outside when it’s charging? And if so what happens if I charge
overnight and it’s 0 degrees, I don’t use the car and a few
days later it’s 20 degrees?

Mine usually ends up with 29 or 31 miles. I’ve had mine a few months now but never seen it stuck in the low 20s. I’m also using a three-pin plug.

Is the charging completing? Mine used to stay at “Initialisating” until I changed my three pin charger. 2021 P400e Autobiography

It's more a guess meter, it works on previous drives I believe and gives an approximation more loads, sprited driving, heated seats windscreen etc will drop the range

If this is correct, I’ve clearly not thrashed my car enough. I’ve never seen my full capacity go under 29 miles. 2021 P400e Autobiography

Thanks for the replies.

Yes charge is completing. 21 miles. And it’s not cold anymore! concern is pretty soon when it’s 20 degrees+ and that’s when it should be showing near 30 it’s still going to be stuck in the low 20s

I wonder if it’s charging cable related. If you always get 29-31, can I ask do you ever drive on EV only mode? And do you charge outdoors or in a garage?

Thanks!

If you’ve gone through a main dealer, I’d ask them to check this out for you. My 70 plate consistently gives me 29 or 31 miles for a full charge. This is charging via a JLR three pin cable with the car on the driveway.

I tend to drive fairly conservatively but with the occasional blatantly a bit of fun. I’m averaging about 700 miles per tank using mainly short journeys. I use EV mode for short trips even though it won’t use the battery all of the time. 2021 P400e Autobiography

If charging is complete, i.e. 100% then your charger is fine.

The range is nothing to do with charging assuming it is at 100%

The range predicted is just the same as an pure ICE car, a guess based on previous usage.
I get high twenties predicted as I am running EV mode on local journeys and do not exceed 40 mph.

What sort of trips are you making in EV mode and what sort of speeds? 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

Mine showed 28 miles this morning, as you say even when mine was new in 2021, around 30 miles warm weather then down to 21 in the coldest period, every time my charges up to 100%, if I was you I’d get your supplying dealer to check the batteries as at this time of year I’d expect it to be more than 21 miles most times it was charged. JLR guarantee they will still be 75-80% efficient at 8 years old but this will have multiple conditions around it so they don’t need to pay out for replacements.

How many times are you charging the car per tank of fuel? Tim
RRS sold and replaced with a Skoda Kodiaq after appalling RR Dealer experience and LR inability to supply new cars in any sort of reasonable time frame..

So far I am using EV only, local journeys at low speed, using about 50% of the battery and then charging back up to 100% within 4 hours every other night. I haven’t put any fuel in since the I got it 2 weeks ago

Well it's using that short journey to predict the range. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

I charge nightly to full charge. My trips vary from 70-80 miles in a day to sometimes short trips of 2-3 miles.

I normally do a long trip once couple of weeks, so the majority are short and well within the stated battery range (even if the car does decide it needs ICE. I’ve somehow never noticed my full charge go below 29 miles, regardless of the outside temperature or what kind of trips I’ve done. 2021 P400e Autobiography

Mine does multiple daily short journeys, as I said this time of year it normally shows around 26/28 miles, up to 33 in July and down to 21 in winter, over the last 3 years. Only seems to change depending on temperature from what I can see.

Spoke to the dealer. Apparently the range estimate is based on the last 40 miles driven. It is relatively hilly where I am I guess but still doesn’t make sense to me. It’s not like I’ve had the aircon/seats on the whole time which they also said was a factor. Will give it longer to see if it changes when my drives start to vary a bit
