Eh up No Expert

How you doing

Yup exactly that - doesn’t smell burnt if you know what I mean but hell it’s in poor condition in my opinion

Hopefully get it sorted using one or the other method next weekend- can only be a good thing to swop out.

I’ve got 5 litres so should leave me 1 litres to slop all over and waste as usual πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

Cheers

Eh up all,

Well today I opted to do the PAS fluid πŸ€”

Tools:-

Oil extractor
Adjustable clamps for the hose clips
Rags , lots of rags 😁
Homemade bung, ( 10mm ID hose with tyre dust cap 😳)
Jugs ( the glass type - optional)
Turkey Baster ( or chicken one if you like )

Decided to try and see if I could extract the PAS Fluid instead of following the usual routes.

Extracted circa 350ml of old PAS from reservoir ( see photo 😳)
Removed reservoir from holder
Place rags around the whole area
Slipped compression clip of return pipe using clamps - note the angle it fits at otherwise it will catch on the coolant reservoir
The return pipe is the smaller of the two and has a 10mm ID
It may be coincidence but mine had a white line on the pipe which aligned to a indented line on the reservoir so I used this to line the pipe up for re fitting
Remove pipe from reservoir and quickly put the bung in place
Insert oil extraction pipe into return pipe ensure it’s secure
Fill reservoir with new fluid
Fill your jug with another 300 ml of new fluid
SLOWLY pump the oil extractor so fluid runs , I kept the vacuum low so I could keep an eye on the reservoir fluid
Keep topping up the reservoir as old fluid draws out and keep your eye on it
I used transparent pipe so could see the fluid change colour
I ran circa 1.5 l through before it turned bright green.

I guessed that within the system it would still have old fluid as I’d not moved the wheels lock to lock.

Refit everything back, good old Haynes quote β€œ Assembly is the reversal of the above” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I then started car and went lock to lock with steering 3 times

Tested reservoir and fluid was discoloured but not anywhere like the original stuff

Repeated the above process and ran another 1.5l through, refit everything

Started car and went lock to lock 3 times

Tested fluid in reservoir and in fairness it was pretty clear, but I elected to extract the reservoir fluid again and top up.

Went for a drive and tested, perfect πŸ‘

Fluid lovely and GREEN πŸ€

I would use this method again, easier for me with no jacking and as I’m on my own no risk of running out of fluid if I started the car and could not replenish the reservoir in time.

I ran circa 4l fluid through in total out of the 5 l I bought,

Steering feels slightly lighter but that could be my mind playing tricks

Hope this helps someone else out, appreciate it’s not the traditional route but it’s quick, clean and low risk ( works for me) πŸ‘

Thanks to all for the advice
