Thought the original post was guess how much the man had been quoted for repair by bodyshop, not how cheap it can be done using scrapyard parts.

Cheers

Disco Micky ...sorry to be thick...

If they keep the car how much are they paying out ?

Have you got to pay £3500 to get the car back ?

Can you just clarify the figures....

would it have been an option just to keep it ,mend it ,say nothing and no N or loss of NCD Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

If they keep the car or sell it back DM gets £12,500.

He also now has the option to buy it back off them at £3,500, but also pays £250 excess, so total return is £12,500 - £3,750 = £8,750.

He then has to factor in repair costs (say £2,000) so he’s got the same car, with slightly newer paint in areas, plus £6,750 in the back pocket.

Yes it will have a lower value (say 30%) from being classified asa write off, however, the monetary value of that is only apparent when he sells the car, so the longer he keeps it, the less the detriment on value.

NCB may be affected as well, but taking everything into account DM is the winner.

The reason they pay out rather than repair, is they would probably have to give a courtesy car of equivalent value whilst the car is being repaired. They can run to shocking figures/day which would more than exceed the car’s value.

The loan car companies make a fortune from it.

In a nutshell Thumbs Up

Back on the road for less than £1500. It'll be with me until it dies/rusts away/becomes uneconomical to repair, then stripped for parts

Being a CAT N doesn't bother me. All damage is superficial

Still a lot of car for a net £4k (inc original purchase price) now though. Just won't make a habit of it Whistle Rolling with laughter

£12500 seems a generous offer.

WBAC have just offered me £13000 for my 2017 Sport on 60k miles Shocked
Yes it’s run on the juice of Satan and not a petrol but prices are all over the place at the moment.
Maybe 17MY is effected more by the Tomfoolery insurance prices at present.

Even more interesting is my GFV is set at £17500 and isn’t due for 18 months!!
That will be an interesting conversation. I like to think I read the future and could see RR prices plummeting and had a built in guarantee Whistle

Haven’t tried Carwow, Motorway were about £400 better.
Reality is the WBAC offer would be nearer £12k in the end Big Cry
