the crank failure is preceded by the bearings wrapping on top of each other around the crank which locks the engine and breaks the crank.

The crankshaft failure issue of the 3.0 and the oil pump failure (noting the oil pump itself does not fail - it is the housing with the cam belt tensioner on it) issue of the 2.7 are not directly related and are separate issues.

Agreed on the fact that the pump itself doesn't fail except for the very earliest ones, when the cambelt tensioner boss cracks off.
