Oil pumps/crankshaft failures

1348651
LR002465
LR007131
LR007798
LR013487
LR076782

LR123716

Not in any order except the last part number in bold, which seems to be the latest available iteration. There are 6 oil pump revisions, a relatively large number for any one particular engine part.

Is it related to the infamous crankshaft failures, or is there something else that JLR are not telling us?

Edit: Added LR076782 - now there are 7 revisions.

the crank failure is preceded by the bearings wrapping on top of each other around the crank which locks the engine and breaks the crank.
LR time has a large section on oil pumps and he thinks its the 5w30 oil being used and will only go 5w40.
Personally I am using 10w 40/
The video below will get you started if you dont know of LR Time

The crankshaft failure issue of the 3.0 and the oil pump failure (noting the oil pump itself does not fail - it is the housing with the cam belt tensioner on it) issue of the 2.7 are not directly related and are separate issues.

However low oil pressure in the 3.0 (not a normal issue) may have an impact on wear in the engine, the same as it may have in the 2.7. 07MY RRS TDV6

Agreed on the fact that the pump itself doesn't fail except for the very earliest ones, when the cambelt tensioner boss cracks off.

I have now had 3 oil pump changes on my 2.7L engine, every 2 oil pump revisions or so. Noticeably, the tapple rattle goes away in under 3 seconds even after the engine hasn't been started after 1-2 months. This is with the latest oil pump revision.

Unfortunately, I cannot attribute to oil pump changes, the 263,000km travelled on the same engine.
