Just had to renew Vehicle Registration (VED in the UK) $107.00 for the year (£52.00) not to bad for a old 5.0L polluting gas guzzler stupid thing here is insurance is not mandatory either, but based on the standard of driving here is rather dumb.

I think you mean third party insurance is included in your reg ...anyone over 16 can drive any registered vehicle ,,lots of hoons and hoonets in 4 litre cars ,,,,no test until you want to sell it ..Queensland anyway Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Yes it is, but it only covers personal injury, doesn't cover any damage to your vehicle though, even if not your fault. Have to claim off own insurance if you have it, or try and get the money back from the other person if they don't have insurance which generally means tough luck.

Compare that with my VED of £630 (NDZ 1,292) with insurance costing £386 (and that's last March!). Of course I could sell it and dig up the money for a new hybrid one with lower VED but then the insurance (if I could get it) would be in the thousands.  Robin
