Need tyres

Hi all, sorry for the stupid question. I need 4 tyres for my 2009 L320. I can get Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Tyres: 275/45 R20 110V Volvo, Extra Load, All Season Tyres from National tyres for £784. It came with a bunch of budget 275/40 R20. Are the Pirellis suitable? Does the volvo bit make any difference?

Other slightly cheaper option are Kumho Solus 4S HA32 SUV for £653 from blackcircles.

Cheers

Jon

I can't be certain but I would think it just means they are o.e for some Volvo vehicles, you will not get that size specifically marked o.e for Land Rover at least the for L320 because that size tyre 275/45 x 20" was never a option on the L320, however not sure if it was a option on any 20" L494 wheels.

Well they do say "some people have more money than sense" however in my case I don't really have a lot of either Laughing personally I think I will stick with the pirelli's on a 2.5 ton 500+ bhp vehicle, rather than chance some cheapo Indonesian made tyre's, although fair enough they do have a lot of rubber trees there.

Cheers

Cheapo budget tyres are just that, no matter what country anyone is in.

Totally agree Col, why would you go as cheap as possible with the 4 tiny bits of contact with the road? Joined the X5 45e club

Hi,

I used National Tyres for a pair of Pirelli’s recently.

Bought online at tyre-shopper.co.uk and they used National as the fitting agent.

No complaints.

National Tyres must have changed their policy, as one time of day they would not fit tyres if they had not supplied them, used to quote liability issues etc. although that was a while ago now, guess they have changed to match the times.

It all depends why you have the car.
I have had RR since 1973 and have this one an 09 2.7 because it was cheap at £5600 and in great shape .
I only do about 3000 miles so why would I spend £800 on tyres?
90% of the world runs on Chinese/Taiwan/Indonesia tyres so whats the problem?
They would not be allowed to sell them unless they met EU/BS standards.
I think there is a lot of snobbery in saying I am fitting Pirelli ( Yes then you get a nail in the sidewall and that £400 up the spout) Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Had my "more money than sense" Laughing Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres fitted last week by National. All good.
National do a price match which may be of interest to some. Range Rover Sport (gone): Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe: 992 Porsche Carrera 4S: Range Rover Fifty P400e

There is test evidence that shows that the premium brands perform better than the cheap ditch-finders. All meet the minimum legal requirements, some exceed those requirements.

It's fine if you want to put cheap tyres on your vehicles, others prefer to choose a better tyre because they wish to do so.

Calling it snobbery is rather laughable - your own position could just as easily be called snobbery, frankly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Can you actually back this up with ANY data?

Wasn't aware the number of miles done yearly has anything to do with tyre prices and those who do more miles are allowed to buy better tyres without being accused of snobbery.

You'd spend it, because crap tyres may fail you even on the mile number 1. Regards etc.,

Many cars meet encap standards, but only just.

Many electrical appliances meet BS/EN standards, but only just.

Same with almost anything - there is nothing wrong with buying products that exceed the basic requirements/standards for that extra piece of mind.

Tyres are so, so important - all the ABS/TC/EBS in the world still depends on the contact area of a couple of pairs of flipflops between you and the roadway. On a 2.5T car, really ? 2006 RRS 2.7 HSE.

Well, the difference between cheap tyres and decent tyres is quite visible, take wet braking here:

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2023-A...e-Test.htm

Doesn't take a PhD in physics to imagine what happens when you "save on tyres because 3000 miles a year". That's exactly the nonchalant oblivion of Sunday drivers that causes accidents that wouldn't ever happened if they just gave a bit of thought into their purchases. Regards etc.,
