2010 RRS - Unable to open bonnet

Hi Folks,

Well, I washed the RRS on Friday and checked things under the bonnet, all ok, so I shut the bonnet and used it over the weekend.

Today I wanted to clean it again as it was covered in dead flies etc. So after cleaning, thought I'd top up the washer bottle. Go to open the bonnet, pulled the lever and as per norm, I felt a slight resistance and then normally it opens after the next bit. Unfortunately, I had the pull on the lever harder and then nothing.

The bonnet catches did not release but the lever is still springing back ok.

I've taken the lever off to check the cable, it still seems intact. I've tried the trick with someone holding the lever open whilst I either try to lift the bonnet or bang the bonnet above the latches, all to no avail.

Am I correct in thinking that I will be able to remove the N/S front mud shield and there should be a cable connection box. If I open the box, should I then be able to pull the cable that's connected to the latches using pliers ?

Many thanks

Sorry, the information I quoted was from another post on here but this maybe incorrect.

Can anyone confirm if the bonnet cable connection box, connects the release lever cable to the two catches cable, is in the engine bay. If so, is there anyway of getting access to this from the wheel arch ?

Photo for reference, from a D3

Many thanks

Pretty sure that's it's tucked up under the front slam panel about inline with the washer bottle/PS reservoir, would think it's very difficult to access without the bonnet open at least though, don't think there is anyway you would be able to get to it from underneath the car without very long flexible arms.

Cheers

I think you might struggle to reach it if you managed to get the grill of in one piece, if you could get the grill off you might be able to trip the individual bonnet catches but wouldn't know on that. Can't think you are the first one to have this happen and would have thought someone might know how to do it.

Cheers
Col

I did it on my dad's L319 once. Wheel off, liner removed, thinnest arm in the garage employed to wiggle the damn thing. Took two hours. Regards etc.,

Hi Wojtek, thanks, think I'll take the liner off and take a look to see if theres any room but, the photo Col added, its looks really tight in there.

Many thanks

I've just spoken to a landy specialist, apparently they've done a few L320's.

He said I will need to remove the grill, using a plastic trim tool to unclip the four tangs at the top, with the help of someone else lifting the bonnet as much as possible, then pull the grille off.

Then using a long screwdriver, press the bottom lever on each latch to release the bonnet.

I'll give it a go over the weekend and will report back.

I receieved the new latch/cable kit from Maltings this morning and for some reason they have supplied both latches with the alarm micro switch fitted, strange.

Many thanks

Just an update, well after persisting for nearly two hours trying to unclip the four clips on the top of the grill, I gave up.

So, out with the multitool and I disassembled the grill Crying or Very sad

I successfully unlatched the bonnet catches. Bonnet up and looking around I found that the latch cable end had come out of the cable connection box above the O/S headlight.

Old latches and associated cable removed and new ones installed.

This time I have cable tied the cable connection box so hopefully that'll stop it from opening.

Just waiting for my replacement grill now

Many thanks
