I’ve been using the electric towbar for years now and never had an issue until last week.

The towbar folds out to the maximum position, but then goes back about 10cm. Same thing when folded in; it goes in completely but turns and folds out about 10cm. The annoying alarm also remains, and does not end until after a minute. It also starts every time I start the car. I have tried to reset the towbar with the procedure to start and turn off the engine, then the ignition and finally via the buttons in the trunk. It did not help.

Anyone had similar issues ? And how did you overcome?

Is the electrics socket free to move? Mine became stiff and hindered the operation of the hitch deploying and retracting, giving the symptoms you describe, particularly when retracting. I think it should spring out when deployed and be pushed back in when retracted. Mechanism rusted up and stiff, manually exercised it and oiled the pivot point 2016 L494 HSE
