My 2011 has a setting in the navigation setting stating map data update
Does this mean mine can be updated from usb

No, the MY10/11 cars are a dealer only update, the last map was around 2016 I think for those cars with the HDD system before the went to the Gen 2.1 so don't bother.

The facelift L320's do not use a navigation disc, it's a hardrive in the FCDIM module, and on MY12/13 cars it's part of the IAM module
