Hello and welcome. A bit more info is required for others to contribute. What engine do you have fitted. Can you narrow down where the ticking is coming from. Is it there when hot and cold.

The garage isn't local to me but have been helpfull so far with helping sort a local garage to fix it under warranty ...I've tried it again tonight with a cold engine and the noise is exactly the same

Id leave it to them then dude if covered under warranty, they'll need to see if theres any codes, misfire etc.
Then maybe take top off engine, might be without the motor for a few weeks depending on the repair.

Keep us updated.

Got to the bottom of the noise just waiting on the full extent of damage but yes it's the crank that's gone it's spun the shell so waiting to here if it's a rebuild or new engine.so much for low miles 40k and full lr history

I'm not sure to say whether you've been lucky or unlucky. I do hope that the garage won't mess you about and get defensive, but you having the car only 3 weeks makes your case rather robust. There are quite a few threads on here and the Disco3 forum with all similar failures and what it has cost them either through JLR or privately funded. Others have walked away from the brand and chosen elsewhere. Either way it's a known problem and it is a lottery on whom it will affect. Putting it in perspective though the amount of engines they produced to failures (or reported on forums) would suggest its a low percentage, but still a bitter pill to swallow.

So what are your thoughts on moving forward?. If they replace the engine would you still want the car or get your money back and repurchase or choose another brand. Please keep us updated on how you get on and what's done about it though.

I'd reject it and go and find another if you really want one. You could be messed about for ages getting that engine sorted.

As above if it was me I’d reject the car and get a full refund, you will be off the road for months until the replacement engine is fitted and unless it’s done by a JLR specialist there is loads of pitfalls a normal garage can fall into and cause you more problems.

This is the reason I’m in a bit of a quandary about my next RRS, I think I’ll have to go for a 19 plate p400e as that’s what we have at the moment but it’s on a lease which is up next year, a lot of nice AB’s out there as diesel’s but most are tdv6 and knowing my luck I’d end up with this very same issue. I think it will be a p400e AB for us next but buying rather than leasing due to a potential change in jobs for me and I’m to tight to pay the crazy prices for the new model!

Good luck with your issue, hope you get it resolved with as little pain as possible!
