United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Lugano Teal
Steering Angle Sensor shows 5773.5 and wont recalibrate

Hello all,

I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE

Dash lights on:
Suspension/Dynamic response -AMBER
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) -AMBER.
Adaptive front lighting system - AMBER.

I am hoping someone here can advise me where to go with this.

The steering angle shows a constant 5773.5 and this does not change when I turn the sensor.

I have tried re-calibrating the steering angle sensor but this fails every time I try. I am using an Autel Maxicheck Pro which has the recalibration option. Can anyone tell me does the sensor need to be programmed with the vehicle VIN and if so how is this done?

Since initially trying the calibration, the steering sensor no longer shows the vehicle VIN, this also did the same with a second-hand unit I tried that had a VIN stored from original car.

The collar on the column is loose and I suspect this may have contributed to the issue in the first place. That said the issue now is more that I cannot get the sensor to calibrate.

I have tried a second 'used' angle sensor and no different (I am aware that this too could be faulty).

Battery is in good condition and fully charged.

Info from the diagnostics:
Steering angle sensor internal status – for bits 0 to 3 = 4
Steering angle sensor internal status – vehicle identification number compare OK = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition - analogue to digital converter failure = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition - calculation data RAM failure = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition – electrically erasable programmable read only memory write error = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition – electrically erasable programmable read only memory read error = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition –angle skip error = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition –angle comparison error = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition –sensor 1 amplitude over range = False
Steering angle sensor detailed fault condition –sensor 2 amplitude over range = False

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bit of an update.

I have obtained another used Steering Angle Sensor and this time not tried calibrating it.

What I have found is that for about 30 seconds the new sensor provides correct readings then it throw up the lights and goes to 5773.5. I am guessing this is at the point that the vehicle sees the conflict with the VIN number which is that of the vehicle from which it was removed.

Anybody any thoughts?

Any updates on the issue?
Having an identical problem on l322 4.4i 2006

After plugging in the new sas it seemed to work fine, but after swapping the old one out and attempting to calibrate it, it failed aswel.

So was wondering if you managed to overcome the issue.
Best regards

Same Issue

I've just invested over £300 in a new steering angle sensor. Having the same problem. Sensor worked initially on the diagnostics and before installing. I could see the angle changing in real time.

However, once I got it on the car - nothing - wont budge from 5773.5

Now thinking about calling an auto-electrician to check the wiring loom etc.

Just wondered if you had managed to solve the problem. Any help much appreciated

Did any of you go through the “install new module” process in JLR-SDD or other capable diagnostics? Not recalibrate, that probably won’t work and especially won’t with secondhand units. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Thank you - That's helpful as hadn't realised I had to install as new module. However, sadly that doesn't work either. Goes to initialise and calibrate module and the process fails.
Sad

I've had quite a few cars in from other local garages unable to calibrate SAS using generic diag gear

We always use IID or Autologic, and never had an issue

Hmm. sounds like I should have put my hand in my pocket and spent a bit more than my Foxwell diagnostics. Although it has done most stuff so far pretty well.
