I would think one of the first things you need to start with is remove the cylinder heads etc. to check for bent valves or damaged pistons, as you in effect have had the equivalent of a cambelt snap more often than not this would lead to the pistons hitting and possibly bending the valves due to timing being now out, on some manufactures engines there is enough clearance that this doesn't happen, but I don't know with the 3.0L L/R engine whether this will happen or not, I more likely suspect it will.

I read something similar on the D3 sister forum. It was metal fatigue and I'm if I can find the thread. If I do I link it. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue. |

Hi, same thing happened to our 2010 RRS, damaged valves etc, currently reviewing options and gathering info on historical camshaft pulley metal fatigue failures.

Just seen a video that this is a super common problem on 3; diesel engines. Has put me off buying on now. I neerly bought a 22 plate a few months ago and reason i didnt was the insurance. seeing this comon fault, i dont think i will bother at all. |
