Any car electrical experts on there?

I have just bought me a lovely set of LED Brakelights, sidelights, indicators (clear but blink orange) and tiny dashboard LED lights for my Defender but the fitting instructions are pretty well minimal and I'm not good at these things so......................... I have to fit a relay thingy into the lighting electrics somewhere but the instructions don't say where! Would anybody know where it should go? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

They aren't ! They are green, to show my support for Greenpeace!
Anyway nobody will see them as they are new illumination for the dials, most of which are now dark lights on my Def! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Have just looked again in the box Martin, and it says "flasher" on it so I suppose that has to go into the indicator line somewhere! Also have taken all the lamps out of the box for the first time and they all have wires coming off them instead of having the spade connectors that I have at the moment......................... I have purchased them from Roverantics but they are called River runners on all the packaging.
I think that I'll add them to the list of other jobs to be done with the rechassis. So far I have, Galvo Chassis, new Fuel Tank. new shocks and springs, Halogen head lamps, LED dash lighting, LED all other lights. It has also been suggested that I should replace the clutch at the same time - do you think this is necessary? At 66000 miles mine car is still on it's original clutch 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

66k on one clutch seems to be a fair distance for any car - let alone one you take off road, where maybe the clutch gets more use (I'd presume)... if it's having everything else done, it's surely no bad thing to have the clutch replaced too? Confused

Tim
Check out if it has the steel pivot lever that the Disco has in the bell housing, that holds the clutch release bearing. If it does change the paddle aswell as the clutch because the steel ball pushes through the paddle.
As for the lights, send me the diagram of the wiring and relay, or the numbers written on the relay, and I will tell you where they need to go.
4 pin relay will have 30, 85, 86, 87 on it
5 pin will have 30, 85, 86, 87, 87A on it.
As for the indicators, depends how they are wired. Idea You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Tim - that sounds like a replacement flasher relay/unit which is compatible with the low current draw of LED lamps. Just swap over your existing one with the new one - job done Very Happy Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I also asked the techy people at Roverantics and that was their reply too Martin. Next question:
Being non- engineering minded, my existing lamps have spade connections, the new ones have lengths of wire on them and the instructions suggest that it is better to "splice" the LED lamp wires into the wiring loom and cover the joints with watertight covers..... how difficult is this for an amateur or should I get myeself a box of spade connectors and a set of crimping pliers? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

To make it easier for yourself, I'd go for the crimps, perhaps with a layer of heat-shrink tubing or (shudder) insulation tape over the top to make the join waterproof. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

I'll be looking for some tomorrow Martin - but I won't be replacing anything on the Tdi300 until I have seen the 2007 model that is sitting in Morrison's........................ would hate to fit them only to have to take them off again a few weeks later to put onto a new Defender! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

A newer Defender will be different again as the lighting harness is fitted with 2 or 3 pin plugs - these you will have to cut off Sad Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!
