The common consensus is that the oil pump is usually okay until you do a timing belt change, when the oil pump should be replaced. The timing belt tensioner is mounted on the oil pump boss, which is inherently weak by original design. By loosening and retightening the tensioner bolt seems to weaken it further, together with a new belt (and increased load due to belt tension) seems to drive it to failure. Not replacing the oil pump at this point is sheer recklessness.
