Always fit denso alternators. Nothing else.

Checked the fuse which was slightly tarnished so replaced. No difference.

The thick wire runs a few inches to the starter.

OK, so searched all over the engine bay and still couldn't find the earth anyway, under both arch liners too and no visible engine earth. So what I've done is basically added an earth lead from the bolts holding the engine hoist hook and ran that to existing earth point near washer bottle area.
