DYNAMIC ANTI-ROLL BAR LEAK

Hi everyone, just been told my my land rover service department that my 'dynamic anti-roll bar is leaking'
and that its going to cost me £1600 to fix! it only went in for an MOT and health check!
I had the main full service last November all fine and warranty run out last year so obviously very concerned that I'm going to have to pay out a huge sum on something i know nothing about and that hasn't caused my car to run any differently...

does anyone know what this is or if the service guys are ripping me off?

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Santorini Black

Its an anti roll bar filled with power steering fluid, its allows for the movement of the suspension into off road and access height along with adapting to the road conditions when your driving.

LR give the dealers 3hrs to do it but in reality they struggle to fit it into a day and in some cases end up splitting the chassis, part roll bar its self is £1200-£1300 and they are prob charging you 3 hrs at £100 ish.

Has it failed the MOT for the roll bar leak? ?

appreciate the reply.. its the front apparently.

i understand what it is now but shocked its going to cost me £1600 to fix
ive never even been off road in the car, my missus drives it to the shops and school etc!

im in buckhurst hill, cars been serviced in hainault land rover

what do you think? couldnt see your post about this will have a look for it now..

Last year a message was issued - "Stabilizer bar fluid weep - Dynamic Response vehicles".

If the leaks are from the pipe o-rings then this are serviceable parts that can be replaced - cheaper to do.
However, if the leak is from the hydraulic seal, this is not a serviceable part and a new stabilizer bar will be required. Costly, I would believe! Malaysia Boleh!

Lee if you look at my profile and check my posts you will find it.

And as Bobby said, it's its the o ring seals on the supply and return pipes they are serviceable items, but if yours is leaking from the piston/ram part of the ARB which mine was, unfortunately it's a new ARB at a cost of £860 plus a days labour!! Hence £1650 I got quoted.

I have just received the same treatment from Hainault Stratstone service.

Car has done 40k and is 5yrs old and took it in for a routine service and MOT and now have a 2.5k bill!

Any further advice? Feels a bit odd.

Shortly after I bought my RRS had a similar experience with being told by an LR dealership the ARC bar was leaking and needed to be replaced at huge expense and just went along with it but felt as if I'd been mugged somehow.

Now armed with a bit more knowledge about the problem I would probably first check out where the leak was really coming from by cleaning up the area with degreaser and monitoring for a few days to see if it could be fixed with an 'O' ring replacement on the coupling or if the actuator itself was leaking.

Given that there seems to be no-one reconditioning the units then if it is actually leaking a replacement is the only option but if you bought the unit directly from Duckworth Parts for about £800 and commissioned a good independent to fit it I would expect to save money on the cost quoted by an official LR Dealership. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I had the rear bar replaced on my Sport last year. Luckily it was covered by the warranty. The paperwork showed about £800 for the part and about 3.5hours for labour. VAT on top of that no doubt.

They took the body off to do it and had the vehicle for 2 days so the 3.5hours was obviously "book time".

Mine was very obviously leaking - there was evidence of oil on the tailgate and a good patch on the road beneath the vehicle. I had a look underneath and there was "oil" everywhere from the rear of the fuel tank to the diff mounting, the diff and the anti-roll bar. I thought I had a leaking fuel tank at first.

It's a clever idea: have a nice firm anti-roll bar on road and then disconnect it off road so that you can get decent wheel articulation. Works very well too. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

To have the rear bar replaced you don't have to take the body off. It can be done in the way that they "open" your car from behind like a"can of tuna" just to get about 10cm space so that they can replace it. But it is true that on some LR services they don't know how to do that and they prefer to take the body off (and charge you a lot of££££)and some others like in LR Aichlseder Klagenfurt (Austria) they know exactly how to do it in 3h. 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,.....

This is correct. The rear bumper comes off, and the rear body mount bolts are removed. The body is then raised just enough to get the ARC actuator out Thumbs Up
