Leaking anti-roll bar

My ARB has been leaking for a few months now and I have been putting off having it done due to the cost of the bar itself. I have always just looked at the price of the Land Rover item and thought “Yikes!”. I think the leak may be getting worse and the oily patch on my drive increasing in size, so it’s time for a replacement.

A quick look at prices for a new ARB on the Interweb shows prices as follows:

OEM £499
BWI £700
LR £1500

all prices plus 20% VAT.

Anyone else changed their anti-roll bar recently and if so, which one did you go for?

I'm surprised the OEM one is that price. I'd have expected it to be c.£600-700 + VAT. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Front or rear ARB? 2010 TDV8 - current - my first RRS, loving it so far......
2005 Cayenne S - handling defied physics and what a sound, so sod the mpg!
1995 Disco TDI- surprisingly reliable, shame about the peeling dash & other trim
Lots of other non 4X4's in between times.........

Be careful when buying something labelled as OEM. Sometimes parts are labelled OEM by the retailer and that's because the manufacturer is an OEM to Land Rover, for a completely unrelated part eg. a tyre valve cap. It doesn't necessarily mean they are the OEM for that exact part.

You need to confirm the manufacturer of the part being labelled OEM.

The OEM for the active ARB was Delphi. Delphi sold out to BWI in 2010. BWI are now therefore the OEM. They are a reputable manufacturer and I would not hesitate in buying a BWI unit.

Here are some cheaper prices on BWI ARBs for you...

FRONT LR032958 (up to VIN 6A999999) @ £636.91+VAT https://www.lrseries.com/LR032958-BAR-FRON...EPLACEMENT
FRONT LR032959 (after VIN 7A000001) @ £636.91+VAT https://www.lrseries.com/LR032959-Bar--Fro...EPLACEMENT
REAR LR024073 @ £684.29+VAT https://www.lrseries.com/LR024073-Bar-Assy--Roll-NEW-REPLACEMENT Kev

Other versions on their site, of course. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thank you everyone for the info.

It’s the rear bar I need replacing. Several companies sell the bar as OEM, no idea who manufactures it. One company sells OEM and also the BWI.

I think the LR price is prohibitive and I won’t be bothering the local dealer for a quote…

Update: I’ve had a new rear bar fitted. The bar was OEM and was manufactured by BWI. I’ve been lead to believe that BWI actually make the bars for Land Rover. It cost £499+ VAT from Island-4x4 if anyone is interested.

Forgot to add that it now corners like it used to without it wallowing around.

Bought the bar myself for £600 inc vat and was fitted by a local LR specialist for about £400 in labour costs alone. I have been told that it’s not an easy job cos the chassis has to be unbolted from the body. The bar won’t come out without doing this.
