Alternator charging wire...

Hope this is the correct section. So, about 3 months ago I swapped out battery thinking it was beyond use due to sluggish starting and the 3 amigos on the dash. All was well for a month or so. Was suggested to have the multi meter on the battery and was only showing 12.4 at idle with all lights etc turned on. Was then informed to change alternator which I did yesterday along with new aux belt. Still doing the same. Not happy.
So any thoughts people on this? I've cleaned up yhe earth point for the battery and, your ahead of me now aren't you, no difference. Wiring issue from alt? Where do they go?
Advice always appreciated

Always fit denso alternators. Nothing else.

I think there maybe an earth strap someone through the drivers wheel arch. Not sure.

I would check the 5A fuse in the enginebay fusebox. Number 20.
Replace or wiggle it

Checked the fuse which was slightly tarnished so replaced. No difference.
The links are good but can't find the actaul wiring for my 2008 2.7
Could do witk knowing where the sigmsl charging wire runs to for a visual check of its integrity.

The thick wire runs a few inches to the starter.

It then runs under the front of the engine. (Bolted to it) it can the short on the diff housing.

Basically if this wire was poor, the starter won’t function

OK, I'll check it anyway.
Can any fellow 2.7 owners confirm your battery connections or have a picture of their own they can share. I'm reading up and see some mention BMS and I don't think I have one.

OK all.
So after doing a bit more research I read that a test you can do for bad earth's is to start the car then attach a jump cable from earth of the battery to the engine block. I did that then voila 14.3v at the battery whilst idle. Hurrah for now. Then when I turned all electrics on the load dropped back to 12.8 ish and the jumper cable got hot..... So
2 questions please
First is what's the besy way to remedy the earth and secondly, is it correct that the cable should get hot when more load applied.

Thanks all.

that is good news.

around 13v is ok with everything turned on.

A thin jump lead will get hot, so don't worry.

Just need to find the earth lead now (if there is one) between engine and chassis. Could be braid or thick wire.

That's good news on the cable getting hot. Now to hunt for the earth on the block.
Can I add a new earth somewhere?
Has anyone else done this and how?

OK, so searched all over the engine bay and still couldn't find the earth anyway, under both arch liners too and no visible engine earth. So what I've done is basically added an earth lead from the bolts holding the engine hoist hook and ran that to existing earth point near washer bottle area.
Eureka!! 14.8 at idle and fires up with a load more power. Happy days.
So, quick tip, check the extra earth with jump lead before condemning the battery or alternator as failing.
