2012 Range rover sport external Tailgate release.

Good evening to all members,my 2012 RRS autobiography has today developed a slight fault the tailgate releases from both the dash switch and the fob, however the external release handle appears to do "NOTHING".I have found the handle /switch unit for sale at various prices!as low as about £12 so is it easy to get at or will it just need cleaning?WD40/Oiling,Advice and tips on problem and accessing it would be very much appreciated indeed,I am fairly mechanical <cuurently in the final stages of a frogeye"BUT THEY ARE SO SIMPLE".
Many thanks Gary.

You have to remove the tailgate inner trim panel to access the switch, if I remember correctly there is not much to lubricate on the switch as it is all electrical and sealed. While you have the switch out could always fit the tailgate closing mod from the fob/dash switch. Only a suggestion with the mod.

Cheers
Col

You need to buy the mod kit, easy enough to install I think I still have the instructions here somewhere, used to be a member on here who made the kit's not sure if he does it any more though, but have seen them advertised on fleabay, will have a look and see if I can find them.

This is the sort of thing, have gone up in price drastically since I had mine done though, sure you could buy cheaper elsewhere.

Hi,and many thanks for all replies. The job is now done but not so simple, firstly the switch is not easily accessible after removing inner trim you have to remove 8x8mm set screws to remove the outer plasic panel below rear screen which contains the switch and number plate lamps.I then found the small loom that fed the switch and No plate lamps is one piece,my £12 chinese version just had a short lead with a plug?NO USE,so I cut the wires and spliced them, anyway now all up and working,if I'd realised for little over£2 more I could have got one with the complete mini harness!lesson learned.
Once again Many Thanks Gary.
