Land Rover Service Plans - Good Value For Money?

So having returned to the fold and having had the pleasure of a MY17 5.0 supercharged for the last 12 months I have to now face the decision around the annual service.

Typically I would select an independent specialist (knowing my warranty is still intact) and move along however, out of morbid curiosity I jumped onto the local retailer website for a cost and £1,100 later (for a year 6 time based service) that pretty much made my decision.

However I then thought about service plans (as I had a 2 year one on my previous L320 when buying from the LR dealer), so popped the details into the official LR site and for a 36-month package it works out at £1,911 and change. Now considering this includes the big year 7 service with the plugs and all the belts and tensioners this doesn’t seem bad or am I out of touch with reality?

Amusingly it also offers a 12-month plan for £515 which isn’t too dissimilar to what I was expecting to pay anyway.

So, am I out of touch with independent pricing and giving LR too much credit or are these actually decent?

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

I would pay extra to NOT go to a LR dealership, frankly. Even if they offered me a free service I'd go elsewhere.

One thing you can guarantee is that they will either mess up something or they'll find something that must be done and costs a fortune. Likely they'd do both of those things. The classic is brakes - "The brakes are dangerously worn, sir, and we can't let you drive it away unless you let us sort them out. And the price is a grand. Plus fitting. Plus VAT. Sir."

Really, don't do it! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Oh I hear and agree with that, been subject to many such like claims over the years - what they don’t account for is I am a proud Yorkshire man and therefore tight as a ducks nether regions - I also am fastidious about looking at the likely culprits in advance so, I can take great pleasure is asking some difficult questions after presented with the ‘facts’.

That being said I do also like tan easy life hence my preference for an independent to start with - any recommendations for East Mids/Cambs area? 2017 5.0 V8 Supercharged - Carpathian Grey
