I recently bought a 2nd hand RRS, 3.6 TDV8, L320/2009, HSE with 200K Kms (125k miles), the owner was honest and pointed out a light rotational sound coming from under the vehicle. It's a regular rotational light taping "vouoom and vouoom" sound, not a knock, grind or whine noise. I initially thought it was a wheel bearing or front-end issue. In any case, my head went fuzzy and I still bought the vehicle. I took it to the main Land Rover dealer to check it out.
The diagnosis is a rear prop shaft issue. The centre doughnut anti vibration bush holding the central bearing has worn and the sound is the tapping of the shaft against the failed doughnut bracket. The bearing seems to be fine. They will try and replace the center bearing, doughnut bush and bracket as well as the UV joint and rebalance the prop shaft. If this does not work then they will replace the whole propeller shaft with an original rangie/LR part.
Anyone had the same problem? I hear that this is fairly common due to the high stress and rotational speed of the prop shaft.

Instead of messing around changing the centre bearing, balancing the shaft, etc., just put a new shaft on from the transfer box back to the diff. One job, one bill, rather than having several attempts at it and thus having several bills which in total will be more than just replacing the entire thing straight away. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
