I’ve got a friend with a 2005 RRS and he’s got a big issue

He’s Never had this issue before but today all of a sudden went to release the electronic handbrake and it made a strange squeaking noise from rear of vehicle. He has tried pulling the emergence release cable however I have the following error code come up in relation to it now

PBM - Parking brake control module

With C1A53 Electronic parking brake latching failure, emergency release has been activated

Is there a quick fix or is it a garage job, how much you gents reckon ?
