My car is in the garage at the time of writing and it has been diagnosed with a worn wheel bearing. Interestingly, there is no movement on the bearing but definitely sounds graunchy when the wheel is turned. |

Had the same on mine at similar mileage - replaced both fronts, although only one was noisy, on the basis that if one has gone the other probably isn't far behind (IIRC it was the N/S/F which is also the one getting the most loading on roundabouts).

The bearing was very corroded and the chap at the garage brought it out and said “Here you go! Try and turn it!” It was virtually seized solid. The mount had also corroded to the arm. The scars on the old bearing showed the battle between man and machinery.

Was it missing any rollers? That’s when you know a bearing is extra crispy. I did one a few weeks ago missing eight rollers, and the guy drove it in saying it needed brakes.

There weren’t any bearings missing but they were just worn out. A bit like my knees these days… 🤣

Timken are good bearings. Watch out for FAG, just received one with Made in China on it. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

A quick update: both bearings have now been replaced. The low rumble that was ever present has now disappeared and there used to be an occasional knock on the steering, that hasn’t happened again either. 👍 |
