England 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Santorini Black
gear shift problem

Hi wonder if you can helpmate?
2016 RRSport Dynamic with the "joystick" type gear shifter.
Just drove the car home and it behaved normally.
Went back to the car to go out again and the lever is jammed in park.
The small button underneath the lever that I normally press to select drive is solid preventing me from picking drive, reverse or neutral. Also if I tap the lever there is a bit of a "rattle" from it (can't describe any other way).
To me it sounds like that release button has jammed or fallen apart.
Does anyone have any experience of this problem and it would be a bonus if a cure is known that I could perform.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

It's a common problem caused by stupid design and cheap Chinese parts!

The button you push in has a plastic pin that snaps off and then can't push the microswitch to release Park.

You can buy a repair kit on well known auction sites and I have also seen someone fix it using a hairclip, which is not as crazy as it sounds! Just look it up on YouTube.

Think you just need a pry tool and a T8 Torx screwdriver. Simple enough job if you are at home and not stuck at the side of the road!

May I suggest you take some photos if you attempt to repair it yourself and share on the forum for others.

It's another thing that I lay awake at night worrying about, but the drive is worth it!

Good luck. 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?
