Qatar 2008 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black
Bought an Abandoned ‘08 RR Sport 4.2 SC at auction…

Hey all,

New to this RR club. I bought an abandoned 08 Sport at auction. It has not key.
I just wanted to understand the process as I’ve getting a lot of disparate info so your input would be helpful.

I understand that i have to:
1. get a key from a LandRover Dealer
2. Take the key and the car to the dealer to get it programmed
3. Only after that will i be able to open the doors and attempt to start/turn over the vehicle.

Some things i am confused about:

1. With the new key will there be a ‘smart key’ included that allows manually unlocking of driver side door?
2. One dealer suggested that since the car has been sitting so long that i will need to buy a ‘BCM unit’ along with the key in order to start the vehicle
3. Is there anything else i will need other than a ‘programmed key’ to start the process of opening and then attempting to start the vehicle?

As i stated i am new to the RR club and took a chance buying a abandoned RR sport at an auction. The price was decent and i recognize that I’ve hit a jackpot or opening the door to a nightmare, lol.

Also, where should i start mentally in relation to known problems that are common to thee vehicles. Obviously its a bit premature since i cant even open the car or haven’t started the engine…

Any tips, suggestions (even outside of the key issue) are welcome.
Thanks in advance.

I’d recommend you buy a set of eBay uk
This should include.

Key and door barrel and ignition barrel
Cjb/fusebox/bpm
Engine ecu
Instrument dials

When you fit all these you should be able to start and drive the car.
Still may require some programming of vin numbers
And mileage would be wrong

Tell them what year you have and ensure it’s for a
4.2

Not sure that lock set would be any use as USA cars use a different frequency 315Mhz. UK cars use 433Mhz, assuming it is USA spec. as l/h/d and the op lives in Atlanta.

Looks like it has had a facelift front fitted as well.

Cheers

Very good point col

Unlock and lock buttons may not work with receiver in roof
And against local regulations.

So alternative. Get the key blade number from LR. Get a blade made and then new keys programmed to car.
I made that sound simple Laughing
